Having started out in life as a (fairly average!) graphic designer, I gradually moved into account management within various agencies, and eventually into an in-house marketing role.
I have over 25 years of experience, to Account Director level in agency roles – and client-side to Head of Marketing UK&I within a large US corporate. I decided to get out of the rat race in 2002 and set up on my own as a freelance marketing contractor – a business which I still run today.
Over the years I’ve found myself getting more and more involved in copywriting projects, as clients asked me to take on this side of their campaigns as well. So much so that my work is now about 50/50 marketing and writing. Partly fuelled by a rapid increase in the importance of good quality ‘content’ as part of digital marketing, after Google realised that website owners needed to be writing for human beings and not search engines.
In tandem with all of this, I have also developed the photography business as a sideline, having been an avid amateur photographer from the age of 8, when my Dad taught my sister and I how to develop our own black & whites in his loft-come-darkroom. Couple that with an almost obsessional love of travelling and travel photography – and the rest, as they say, is history!
